The Revolution is Being Televised and The Band of the Hawk Provides the Soundtrack With “Slapboxin”
In these tumultuous times, nothing is certain but The Band of the Hawk and their work ethic. Their new EP “Slapboxin” was recorded in a week where there were pandemics, police brutality, social injustice and rapid unemployment. To be clear this project acts as an escape for the artists and the listeners. The BOHUP Crew always speaks truth to power with a mix of witty abstract imagery.
The actual theme of the album is explained in the “Intro” with a classic interview with Muhammad Ali. In the spirit of boxing, the fighters have to practice, this is usually called sparring. In the streets, the people cannot spar because they do not possess the expensive safety gear to prevent injury. So they evolved to slap boxing, a more light way to throw hands with competitors minus the brutal impact. On this EP the 2 leaders of The Band of the Hawk, Yeaux Majesty and Noah Archangel, are slap boxing lyrically. These Hawks are spitting everything on their mind from black power talk on “Shabazz Bros” to basketball legend Kobe Bryant on “Mamba out” to trips in Greece on “Wominique Dilkins”. Hip Hop Fans, Revolutionaries and Protesters alike will enjoy this project.
According to Noah, this EP is a prelude to the full length album from The Band of the Hawk coming in July. Catch up before then and check out the other releases from The Band of the Hawk, Yeaux Majesty and Noah Archangel, available on their website and streaming on all platforms.
