J-Giles Son (@JGILESson) – Nothin Down

There’s nothing down here that can compare to what God’s prepared for us up there; it follows that what we choose to give up for the sake of Christ and His Kingdom isn’t worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed in us [Romans 8]. In his 6th album Here & There, J-Giles Son compares daily life to eternal life, focusing on several different themes such as life, death, Heaven & Hell. Meant for believers and doubters, the young and old, this project was recorded with the intent of exploring the reality of Heaven and what is to come after our short time here on this earth. Deeply rooted in scripture, Here & There also sets out to declare “what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” to all [1 Corinthians 2]. Though an impossible task to accomplish, the album takes listeners on a journey that has the potential to lead a person to stop and consider why they are here on earth and where they are headed in this life and beyond…

Jamiil Hankins feat. SodaCanMan – New Hunnaz (via @Bgmgmusic)

The latest single from Philly-based entrepreneur and rapper/producer Jamiil Hankins, “New Hunnaz” is modern-themed hip hop record based off the timeless Richard Pryor film Brewster’s Millions. A creative brainchild, Jamiil Hankins’ “New Hunnaz” makes way for his forthcoming album that highlights his unconventional approach to the typical hip hop sound.

Herléo Muntu (@herleomuntu) – Zoba

There is something so genuine about Herleo Muntu’s music. A man born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo but raised in Canada, he could easily be a novelty act, just some bizarre musical experiment. On paper especially, the description of his music sounds like it would clash: a French speaking man summoning the sound of deep Africa and Latin America? When I was introduced to his music, I was at once baffled and intrigued. Immediately, I had my doubts. But, miraculously it all works! And it works wonderfully!

The best thing about music is its versatility. I don’t understand one word he is saying and yet the music takes me someplace else. It takes me into his world, where a life lived with one foot in each culture comes together to paint a very impressive picture.

There is heart and soul, there is excellent beat and rhythm, and there is loads of creativity to keep you listening to his fourth LP Valeur D’Or over and over again. Highly recommended!
