Anyone who considers themselves a rap enthusiast must be encouraged by the influx of new talent streaming in. Brooklyn rapper Jimmy Heights, once known as Hazard, is making a strong push toward the front of the line. Enter Jimmy Heights, a talented, teenage college MC from Crown Heights, Brooklyn with serious mic skills, catchy melodic hooks and the determination of no other. Starting from age seven Heights began gaining his respect and credibility from battling to rap ciphas and flooding his area with mixtapes. Whether standing on top of a lunch table at school to a sporadic war of words on the streets, he was able to refine his craft of work. Jimmy’s buzz began late last year after his song “Blues” which was featured on his first YouTube account. To follow up the success of “Blues”, he later released “France” which he spit over a J-Dilla beat and became his biggest record for that time being. The resulting positive feedback gave Jimmy Heights a rapidly gained buzz and the love for music. His first mixtape, “Don Quixote” featured many headbangers with sweet rhymes and beats. “Don Quixote” was a success and proved to be a stepping-stone in the emerging stardom of the young lyricist

In Jimmy Height’s latest mixtape “Black AmeriKKKa”, he goes over and above the booty and bling, delivering sociopolitical messages. Jimmy’s mixtape makes an effort to be lyrically deep, displaying his boundless skill as a rapper. His delivery is loud, forceful and clear; he is able to spit rhymes with great rhythm and flow. It also serves as a great showcase piece for the youth rap movement. On here Jimmy shows a great deal of creative potential, demonstrating that he can spit fast while mixing it up with a slew of slow to mid-tempo tunes, and he often intersperses mellow R&B hooks throughout. He possesses great command of his flow, while doing a supreme job of establishing a sense of personality.

Jimmy Heights is establishing himself in the industry the way many of his brethren are: with mixtapes. Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean, most notably, have presaged highly successful albums with independently released mixtapes. Ultimately, “Black AmeriKKKa” places Jimmy Heights, together with a handful of his contemporaries, at the head of the young hip hop class, and once again demonstrates that he’s a force to be reckoned with!
